Many Wake County children have few books in their homes, and arrive in kindergarten without the vocabulary, knowledge, and experience skills to excel in the classroom. WAKE Up and Read’s goal is to ensure all low-income students have tools and resources to become lifelong readers and learners.
From March 2 – March 29, 2014, WAKE Up and Read will collect new and gently-used books for children ages birth to 12. The organization’s goal is to collect 40,000 books in four weeks—enough to share with schools and child care facilities across the county. WAKE Up and Read wants to ensure every child in our community has the opportunity to develop a love for reading.
Book donations should be appropriate for children ages birth to 12.
Pre-owned book donations should be gently-used (covers and pages intact, clean, and readable).
No textbooks or used coloring or activity books, please.
Please help by getting involved in your community schools and PTSA by donating your NEW OR GENTLY USED books to the "Wake Up and Read Book Drive" during the month of March! The county goal is to collect 40,000 children’s books from birth to age 12. It is hoped that Wake County Schools alone can collect that many books!
The offical book drive starts March 2nd (Read Across America Day) to March 29th (Service Raleigh Day).
Wake Forest High School PTSA has a collection bin located in the Main Office near Visitor Sign In for the Wake Up and Read BOOK DRIVE Event!
Also, Volunteers are needed to sort books, collect bins, and distribute books to the various schools and preschools receiving the books.
Book drive information can be found at http://wakeupandread.org/Materials.html
